 Requirements – Students must submit at least six (6) essays and complete online pre- and post-tests as well as required practice exercises. Finally, students must submit midterm and final portfolios for review.  Students must have a passing final portfolio to pass the course.

Textbook – The Writer’s World, 4th edition (Lynne Gaetz and Suneeti Phadke). Boston: Prentice Hall, 2017.  MyWritingLab online access included.  

Essays6 required essays, two must be timed (40 minutes)

Online Work - Students must use the online program MyWritingLab (access code with purchase of book). 

  • Path Builder diagnostic test
  • Learning Path of required skill areas not mastered
  • Post Test to show mastery of these skills.  This work can be done in and out of class

             Grading – A student with a passing portfolio would earn a final letter grade as follows: 90-100% average = A; 80-89% = B; 70-79% = C; 0-69% = F[1]

       Attendance and Participation:

  • First Missed Class: Excused
  • Second Missed Classes: Excused
  • Third Missed Class: Deduction of 20 points from class participation
  • Fourth Missed Class: Deduction of 20 more points from class participation
  • Fifth Missed Class: You earn an NA (Not Attending) as your final grade, and you must repeat the course

       

 Recommended:

  • A notebook to record notes and assignments, and to write journal entries.
  • A folder to hold various handouts and graded quizzes and tests.
  • Textbook we are currently using!!!!!  PLEASE BRING YOUR BOOKS TO CLASS!!!
