Attendance and Participation:

  • First Missed Class: Excused
  • Second Missed Classes: Excused
  • Third Missed Class: Deduction of 20 points from class participation
  • Fourth Missed Class: Deduction of 20 more points from class participation
  • Fifth Missed Class: You earn an NA (Not Attending) as your final grade, and you must repeat the course

If you attend every class on time; stay awake during class; and act respectfully during class, I will give you 100% for class participation.

Late assignments:

  • Any late assignment will receive a 10 point penalty for every day it is late.  After the third day, the assignment will not be accepted.  If you are absent, so is your assignment; however, you may submit it to me electronically via email.
  • Homework or writing assignments will be due at the beginning of the period, not at the end.
  • If any assignment is accidentally lost on the hard drive, unattached to a document, etc., the assignment is considered late.  The campus has a computer lab if you should experience any problems with your home computer.  NO EXCUSES!

Lateness to class:

  • A few minutes late to one or two classes is acceptable.  Being late more than a few minutes is considered tardy.
  • One tardy is equal to half of an absence.
  • Continuous lateness is unacceptable; therefore please consider withdrawing from the course.

Missed Quizzes:

If you miss a quiz, you will have to wait until the “make-up” day at the end of the semester before you can take it.

Missed Exams:

Missing an exam is inexcusable except in the case of a true emergency.  Do not miss examsIf you must miss an exam for an emergency (major illness, death in the family), please contact me via email the day before or the day of the exam.

Cheating:

Absolutely unacceptable.  You should not copy any assignments or work from another student.  You and the other student will receive a zero.  Do not cheat during an exam.  This will give you an automatic zero which will ultimately make you fail the course.

Plagiarism:

Plagiarism occurs when a person knowingly or unknowingly uses someone else’s words or ideas without giving credit to that person.  Plagiarism is theft.  If you use someone else’s words or copy someone else’s paper when you type summaries in this class, you will earn a zero on the paper with no opportunity to redo it for credit.  If you write a summary that does not match your typical writing on homework assignments to the extent that it forms strong suspicion, you will earn a zero on that paper.

Use of Technology –

  • Please silence cell phones during class and classwork
  • Usage of cell phones are permitted for classroom assignments
